Unifying cross-platform investment data with Snowflake-based master data integration

Client Profile

A global investment manager operating across multiple platforms supporting portfolio management, performance, risk, and reporting functions

Business Situation

The client relied on multiple processing platforms, each with its own identifier symbology for indices and related data. As a result:

  • The same index was represented differently across systems
  • Cross-platform analysis required manual reconciliation with Excel and custom processes
  • Benchmarking and reporting processes were fragmented and difficult to scale
  • Operational teams depended on bespoke processes to align data across platforms

These challenges introduced inefficiencies and increased the risk of inconsistencies in analytics, reporting, and downstream decision making.

Grandview's Role

Grandview Analytics partnered with the client to address these challenges by designing a Snowflake-based solution to unify identifiers and enable scalable analytics across platforms.

Snowflake Native Identifier Framework

Grandview implemented a flexible reference data framework within Snowflake to consolidate index identifiers across systems, including:

  • Developed a centralized structure to map identifiers from Aladdin, State Street Alpha, and Eagle PACE
  • Leveraged Snowflake’s support for semi-structured (JSON) data to manage dynamic and evolving identifier relationships
  • Enabled dynamic identifier mapping without rigid schema redesign, allowing new identifiers and platforms to be incorporated without restructuring the data model

Unified Analytics Enablement

To support downstream use cases across the business, Grandview Analytics:

  • Built integrated views combining identifier mappings with underlying data sets
  • Enabled users to trace any index across systems using a single reference point
  • Delivered a consistent, analytics-ready foundation for cross platform analysis

Practical, Delivery Focused Execution

As part of a broader engagement, we proactively applied Snowflake capabilities to address core data challenges, including:

  • Identified an opportunity to simplify reconciliation and analytics of index data representation, top level returns, and index constituents using Snowflake native functionality
  • Delivered a solution aligned to existing index data creation and maintenance workflows across operations, reporting, and investment teams
  • Ensured the approach we designed could scale as additional platforms and data sources were introduced

Results

Grandview enabled the client to establish a unified, Snowflake-based foundation for cross-platform index data integration. The project:

  • Reduced manual reconciliation effort across platforms by enabling system-driven identifier mapping
  • Improved reporting accuracy and consistency by aligning index data across systems
  • Enabled traceability of indices across systems, allowing teams to confidently link and analyze data from multiple sources
  • Streamlined analytics and benchmarking workflows, reducing reliance on bespoke processes
  • Created a scalable foundation to support unlimited data sources, new platform integrations, and analytical use cases without requiring structural changes to underlying data models

By leveraging Snowflake’s capabilities, Grandview Analytics helped the client improve operational efficiency while strengthening the reliability of data used across portfolio management, reporting, and risk processes.
